Good afternoon families,
Welcome back to school and Happy New Year! Here are some updates for January in third grade! Field Trip this Friday: We have our field trip this Friday to the Willamette Heritage Center in Salem. We will be traveling to the museum with the fourth grade class, but taking part in separate activities once there. Your child needs to bring a lunch, snack, jacket, water bottle, something to read or do on the bus (ex: Mad libs, drawing, etc.) In order to hold all these things, it is helpful if they bring a backpack. This way, less things will be left on the bus. Please send your child in uniform or a field trip T-shirt with uniform pants/bottoms and shoes. Thank you! Winter Conferences: Our conferences this winter will be on February 1st, 8th, and 15th and will be Student-Led Conferences. Here are the sign-ups. We will go over your child's portfolio, their MAP scores, grades, struggles, and goals. Your child will be given support at school to know what to say in their conference. These conferences are optional, but encouraged. Volunteering: I could use one more chaperone for our February field trip to Tryon Creek on February 22nd. The sign-up is here. I could also use help vacuuming the classroom. The sign up is here. Thank you so much to all volunteers!! Native American Unit Project: Your child is bringing home an orange packet today about their Native American unit project due January 31st. They have a choice of doing two smaller projects, one big project, or taking a test on the 31st instead of the project. These projects are at-home projects, but students can also work on them at school during work time, computer time and library time. If you need materials, please let me know and I may already have them! Please fill out your child's choice and return it to me by next Monday. Thank you! Battle of the Books: Our Battle of the Books start date has been pushed back due to delivery time of the books. We should be able to release the book list at the end of next week. One copy of each book will be available at school, but children can also check the books out of their public library, rent them as an e-book, listen to them on audiobook, and more. Each student is asked to read at least 2 of the books, but the more the better! The whole class will be quizzed on comprehension questions during the battles. I will send updates when we have the book list! Pictures: I've updated our class Google Pictures album with pictures from this week of the students working on their Beringia land bridges. If you have any other pictures from the school year of students, please upload them any time to our album. Especially after events and field trips! Thank you, Miss Devlin Upcoming Events: Field Trip Friday: Friday, January 11th Martin Luther King Jr Day (No School) January 21st Staff vs Middle School Basketball Game: January 24th 6:00-7:00pm All School Assembly: January 31st at 8:00am Native American Unit Projects Due: January 31st Parent-Teacher Conferences: Friday February 1st, 8th, and 15th
