It's the first full week of school and we've got lots to do! Thank you to everyone who stopped by on Back-to School Night. I sent home forms today for those who missed it and an updated the Bonus Field Trip Save the Date as well. If you received a white Class Dojo form today, please sign and return it. This is so I can post pictures of your child on Class Dojo. Only parents from our class will be able to see them!
Field trips: Our first field trip of the year will be October 6th. We are going to OMSI with the 6th graders (who are also studying Ancient Rome) to see the Pompeii exhibit, then we will return to campus for Gladiator games with Mr. Weaver. I have enough chaperones for this trip, thank you! I am still waiting to hear back from two different trips, but here is what I have so far for field trips this year:
Conference sign-up: I have the conference sign-up on Sign-up genius (link). If you signed up at Back to school night, your name should be on there already. If you need to change your time, please e-mail me to let me know.
Picture Day: Our day for school pictures is October 3rd. We will take them at 9:30am. We are using the same photographer as the past few years, Apple of My Eye photography. If your child is absent that day, we will find out the make-up date later.
Mad Tea Party: You are invited to our Mad Tea Party! We will play croquet, drink tea at the Queen of Hearts' tea party and wear fun hats! This will be our celebration for finishing reading Alice in Wonderland. The party will be on September 28th at 2:30.
Cursive Italics: One thing I forgot to mention at Back to School Night is that in 3rd grade, students start to learn how to write in cursive italics. As you may have noticed from your child's homework tonight, italic cursive looks different (less loopy) than traditional (D'Nealian) cursive. We will be starting our Riggs words next week, but our transition to italic cursive is a slow one. Students will be expected to write everything in italic cursive starting in December.
