Wow! It's almost March! Here are the updates for our class this next month:
Family Reading Night: This Thursday is Family Reading Night and our Dr. Seuss' birthday celebration. During the school day, students may wear book character costumes to school instead of uniform. Please make sure that costumes are BOOK characters (if it's a movie, it came from a book first, no superheroes, Star Wars, Minecraft, or the like) and that your child has read the book. Also, they should be able to participate in all their classes (including PE). Thursday night we have our Family Reading Night from 6:30-8pm. Afterwards there will be a Students vs. Staff Battle of the Books battle and a PTA Auction! Sign-ups are required before coming to the event! Here is the sign-up!: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/60B0D4FA5AF23A20-family2
New Core Unit and Field Trip: Our Core Knowledge Unit for the next month is US History: Thirteen Colonies. We will be going on a field trip to the Aurora Colony on Friday, March 16th. Thank you to those parents who signed up to chaperone. I could use a back-up chaperone for that trip in case someone needs to cancel again like last week! If you could be our back-up, please e-mail me or sign up here.
Homework: I gave a reminder to the class about completing homework at home. For Math, we always start our homework at school, but students need to work on this at home for at least 30 minutes a night. For those students who finish their problems in class, I circle the problems they got incorrect and they need to work on those. So, your child should not come home saying they don't have math homework unless we had a test that day. For Riggs, students may complete their sentences in class, but they need to work on writing their words neatly three times with all the markings. Missed words are part of their Riggs homework too. I let the class know that we are getting stricter on homework completion after Spring Break in order to be prepared for 4th grade. This means that if students forget their homework at home or do not complete it, they must bring it the next day. If they do not, they will be working on it during the third recess. Please make sure to check your child's planner each night to help with this. Thank you!
New Pictures: I updated our class album with pictures from our small group light reflection project, our play-doh ear models, and our field trip to Tryon Creek. Here it is!
Health Standards: We will continue to address third grade health standards in class. These topics include: preventing the spread of diseases, healthy relationships, consent, bullying, different kinds of family structures, healthy and unhealthy behaviors, sources of support, managing conflict, personal boundaries, and personal health goals. We will be working through social stories and examples in class.
