Happy December third grade families!
Before we look at these last two weeks of school in December, I wanted to say thank you to everyone who attended the Viking Feast last week. And an extra special thank you and shout out to Mrs. Shepard and Mrs. Bradbury for helping set up the feast!
Field Trip Updates: Our January field trip will be on January 19th to SCRAP and the ReBuilding Center as we focus on conservation and recycling (connected to our Ecology unit). Our February field trip will be a Forest in Winter exploration at Tryon Creek on February 23rd. We have enough chaperones for our January trip, but we only have two so far for February. If you are available to join us in February (or in April), please sign up here.
Astronomy Camping Trip: Don't forget to mark your calendars for June 2nd as our Stargazing overnight camping field trip will be that night! Every student needs to be accompanied by an adult, but if you want to help bring other students whose parents cannot make it, that would be wonderful too. We will be camping together at Milo McIver park in their Kingfisher group tent camping spot. If you would like to camp with an RV instead, there are a few other Standard hook-up spots available. They won't be available for long, so reserve quickly if you want to bring your RV and camp separately from our group tent site. Here is the link
Brains! Our Core Knowledge unit for December is the Nervous System. In this unit, students will be able to touch and dissect a real sheep brain! The sheep brain has been ordered and it should arrive next week. If it does, we will plan to dissect during the week of Dec 11th-14th.
Picture Request: If anyone took pictures or videos they could share from our Viking Feast and plays, could you upload them to our Google picture site, or e-mail them to me? Thank you!!
Typing Club: Our class has been practicing typing every week for 20 minutes in the computer lab on a website called Typing Club. Students have been asking if they can practice more at home. If your child would like to practice at home, they can log on here. They should know how to log in, but if they forget-their username is just their first name and then the first initial of their last name. There is no password. This is completely optional for students who want to practice typing at home.
Volunteering: If you are interested in helping clean our classroom, please sign-up on this website. I know that after school on Thursday can be a busy time, so if you would like to come on a Friday or another day, please let me know and we can arrange that. Thank you!
Have a wonderful December!
