Lots to do in the last one and a half weeks of school! I wanted to lay it out day by day so you know what to expect!
Tuesday, May 29th: On Tuesday we have our last day of Art and our last Core Knowledge test (Astronomy). Students who have not finished the Smarter Balanced test will work on them at the computer lab and will Miss Nanni in the afternoon. Please have your child bring in their white T-shirt for tie-dying on Diffendoofer day!
Wednesday, May 30th: On Wednesday, we have the astronomer (Michael McKeag) visiting our classroom to talk to the class and give us a preview of what we will see on our Astronomy Camp-out. Please send your child with a flashlight so we can cover them in red cellophane with our sixth grade buddies to get ready for the viewing. If your child is not attending on Saturday, no need to bring a flashlight! We will also have a visitor from the Happy Valley Library to talk about summer reading.
Thursday, May 31st: On Thursday, we have our final Math test. There will be no Math homework after Thursday, so please send your child with their Math textbook. We will go to the library for the last time, so make sure your child brings any remaining library books this day as well! We will be cleaning out our cubbies on Thursday, so your child's backpack will be more full than usual that day. Students will also be watching some of the 5th grade production of Midsummer on Thursday. There will be no homework for the weekend! Come see the stars with us on Saturday!
Saturday, June 2nd: The potluck will take place at 6:30pm. If you are planning to come to the potluck and haven't signed up for food yet, here is the sign-up genius link. The sun will set around 8:50pm, and we will head up to the upper field to look at the stars and planets from there. If you are planning to spend the night, please let me know ASAP so I can give you a parking pass. If you already sent the form in, you're on the list. Parking passes will be given out on Tuesday.
Monday, June 4th: In the morning we will have Diffendoofer Day. Some of the stations will be creating things, so please still send your child with a backpack or bag on this day. We have field day in the afternoon, and it is helpful if you send your child with sunscreen. Students are not allowed to share sunscreen and we cannot give any of our own to children, as it is seen as a medicine. It is also important that they have a water bottle on this day.
Tuesday, June 5th (half-day): On this day we will have an all-school assembly. Students will then "fly-up" to their next grade and meet with their fourth grade teacher, Ms. Cantin. If she has summer homework, she will send this home with them. We have the Woodstock-themed talent show starting at 10:00am. Students will be released at 11:30am. If you have someone else picking up your child, please let me know with an e-mail or hand-written note. Students will receive their yearbook, grades, and a few more things, so it is helpful for them to have a backpack or bag on this day as well. There is no lunch, but please send your child with a snack and water bottle.
