Wow! It's really feeling like fall out there! I guess it's a good time to start thinking about the Harvest Festival, Jogathon, and more!
Volunteer Sign-Up Thank you to everyone who filled out the volunteer form. I am putting the vacuuming schedule into a sign-up genius so you can sign up for specific days to come clean. If you filled out a form or are interested in helping with small group tutoring, reading with students, in class speaking, etc, I'll send an e-mail and we can figure out times that will work. Photo Permission I have received photo permissions for Class Dojo, but I have not received the list of website/etc. approval yet, which is why I cannot share pictures on this website. If you would like to see pictures, I will be sharing a lot more on Class Dojo soon. Only families with accounts in our class will be able to view photos on Class Dojo as well, so it keeps the pictures more private.
Riggs Homework: We have officially started our Riggs words, which means your child will have 5-6 words a night. For homework, they are expected to write each word three times neatly, then write one sentence per word. Missed words need to be practiced on the back of their paper three times each. Their words should be written in their planner so that they don't need to bring their Riggs notebooks home. As mentioned before, this should take about 15 minutes. If it is taking way longer than that, please let me know by writing it in their planner, on their homework, or sending me an e-mail.
Math Homework: On most Thursdays, students will have two lessons of Math to do for homework. This means they have two sets of at least 30 minute homework to work on. If it is taking them longer than 30 minutes for one lesson, move on to the next one. Occasionally, your child will have an "Investigations" homework, which comes after each Math test. This will be a worksheet (like tonight) that goes along with problems in the book.
Mad Tea Party and Ancient Rome: Our end-of-the-month family celebration will be next Thursday, September 28th at 2:30pm. We will be celebrating reading Alice in Wonderland with tea and croquet. That day during Core Knowledge, we are making a traditional Ancient Roman dish, which we will eat with our tea as well. Because of the tea party, we won't have a family celebration about Rome. This will be our combined celebration. Our Ancient Rome unit will end on October 6th with our field trip to the Pompeii exhibit and Gladiator Games at school.
Jogathon Forms: The Jogathon is on Thursday, October 26th. Please have your child bring their Pledge sheets to school by Monday October 23rd. This means you still have lots of time to fill out those pledge sheets! If you lost your form or never received one, there are extra in the office and I have a few extra as well. You can also turn them in sooner!
Harvest Festival: The Harvest Festival is on Thursday, October 12th. Baking contest forms will go out soon as well as more information!
