Happy Winter Break third grade families!
I hope everything is going well so far! I just had a few things to post before the break gets underway...
Winter Break Homework: Our Winter break homework this year is to read 8 different times and record it on the blue reading log that your child brought home. There are spots for 10 different times. You can guess about how many minutes they read. Our other homework is to do two lessons in Math and our regular Riggs homework. I am e-mailing a copy of the reading log in case it got lost on the way home!
Winter Conference Sign-up: Our winter conferences are on February 2nd and 9th from 8:00am-3:30pm. The link is now live here to sign up for conferences. If none of these times work, please let me know so that we can meet to discuss your child's progress so far this year.
Brain Dissection Pictures: Here are our brain dissection pictures from Wednesday! I posted them all on our Google Photos and I will post a few on Class Dojo as well! The students all touched a sheep brain and correctly identified its parts!
Conflict Resolution: As conflicts with friends have come up this year, we have put together a conflict resolution chart in our classroom and discussed ways to deal with conflicts at school. I am sharing this so that if you want to reinforce this model at home, you may:
Step 1: Stay calm (breathe)
Step 2: Talk about the conflict (Use I statements such as "When you___, I feel____")
Step 3: List possible ways to settle the conflict
Step 4: Agree on a way to settle the conflict (You may need adult support)
As we went through this process, some of the students decided in Step 3, that they would just avoid the friend (such as not sit next to them, not talk to them, not play with them) for a certain amount of time. We talked as a class this past week about how we can list more positive choices so friends don't feel left out. If your child comes to you at home with questions about this conflict process or about another conflict you would like to discuss with me, please let me know!
New Core Knowledge Unit: Our Core unit for January will be a History unit about Native Americans. If you are interested in which tribes, I listed them under the Core Knowledge tab above. If you or anyone you know would like to be a guest speaker for this unit, please let me know!
Have a wonderful break! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
